Pacific Championships Week 2 | Super League stars

Week 2 of the Pacific Championships got underway at the weekend, with a number of Betfred Super League stars in action once again.

Ben Nakubuwai, Kevin Naiqama and Waqa Blake all featured in Fiji’s 56-6 Pacific Bowl victory over the Cook Islands.

Fiji suffered defeat in Round 1 but bounced back in style with Nakubuwai scoring a try in the 65th minute. He also made 26 tackles – the third highest in his team, as Fiji kept their Pacific Cup promotion hopes alive.

Leeds Rhinos’ latest recruit Maika Sivo stole the show for Fiji on Saturday – the winger scored two tries in three minutes to round off a convincing first win and made a staggering 212 metres.

The Rhinos recently announced his signing for the 2025 season, and fans can continue to keep an eye out for him in this overseas competition before he makes his way over to Headingley next year.

Despite a heavy loss, Esan Marsters made the most runs for Cooks Islands with 17 runs and 117 metres – something Salford Red Devils supporters should be looking forward to seeing in 2025 when the electric centre joins their side.

Peta Hiku was in action for New Zealand – the first Super League player to earn a call-up for the Kiwis since 2017.

Hiku started at centre and played 80 minutes in NZ's narrow 10-22 Pacific Cup defeat to Australia, making 92 metres and 22 tackles.

International Rugby League continues at the weekend as New Zealand take on Tonga, while Papua New Guinea come up against the Cook Islands in Week 3 of the Pacific Championships. More Super League stars are set to be in action - live on Sky Sports for viewers in the UK.

England will also face Samoa in a two-match Test series sponsored by ABK Beer – starting at The Brick Community Stadium, Wigan, on Sunday 27 October, and finishing at AMT Headingley Rugby Stadium, Leeds, on Saturday 2 November.
